5 stars for Dewees and even more for Emily and Judy. We are grateful for such a relaxing and grounding week.
The lack of automobiles alone brought me back several shades of sanity. If only there were entire states devoted to pedestrian-only traffic.

Dewees offers a detox from the intoxicating blur and buzz of real life.

Dewees calls to me and I would love to live there for several years. The homes are gorgeous, and the natural surroundings are inspiring. The beaches are first class, yet empty! We loved the alligators and bird life, but most of all the quiet, peaceful days, as life was a century or more ago. I find the Dewees community's commitment to preservation to be fantastic. More specifically, this house is a dream, and the owners and property managers made our trip easy and flawless. Stay at Dewees is you want some quiet time, some beautiful time.... you won't regret it!
My husband and I have stayed on Dewees four times now and loved each of our adventures there. But for our recent stay, we found our accommodations to be especially wonderful. Property 130 was perfect in every single way for our group of 8. Big windows abound and offer incredible views of the tidal lagoon with its rich birding activity. The multiple screened-in porches were a delight--there was always a breeze somewhere. And we found the house spacious yet full of cozy areas as well. The kitchen was well equipped, there were abundant bath and beach towels, and there was also good supply of beach chairs. Three clean, fully functional golf carts allowed our group maximum flexibility as we planned our activities. But if we had to name one favorite feature of the property, we would say it was its location. As we drove to or from the beach, the ferry dock, or anywhere on the island really, the road would take us around the perimeter of the large tidal lagoon with an amazing variety of birds and lots of alligators too. Birdwatching outings became a popular activity for all of us. We can't imagine how how that property could be improved upon!
Recently my family and I visited Charlottes Pearl on Dewees. I had waited all year to take this vacation and it did not disappoint. We arrived later than we expected and were able to find the house even in the dark (thanks to a good map and some really nice people out taking a moonlite stroll). When we arrived the house lights were on and everything was so inviting. The elevator was a luxury that I think every house should have. This was my daughters trip to celebrate her birthday. She and her 6 month old baby and a friend accompanied my husband and I. We awoke early, made mimosas and headed for the beach. During our stay we rode bikes, walked the beach, hunted for seashells, built sand castles, rode in the canoe and drove the golf cart around until the battery nearly died on the way back to the house. We saw alligators, deer, dolphins and crabs. My grandson put his toes in the ocean for the first time and tasted his first sand. The house was amazing. The dual master bedrooms afford us lots of privacy. The kitchen had everything we needed to make and serve meals. The doors that opened up onto the screen porch made me happy. We opened all the doors and let the breeze flow. We cooked on the grill. Had margaritas on the deck and listened as the ocean roared in the back ground. Only one surprising thing in the whole experience and not necessarily a bad one; just an FYI. There is only one tv in the entire house. We only had to do a little negotiating to see whether we were going to watch a movie or play video games. The wifi worked perfectly and there were books and magazines available as well. We met some very lovely people on the island as well, foremost was Judy and her charming husband. They were so kind and helped us navigate around even throwing crabs (the spiders of the sea) out of the canoe so that my daughter would not be scared. Their kindness was extraordinary. I learned a lesson though and decided that next time, I would take the advise of the experts and go to the house drop off all the luggage and go to the store later or have the groceries delivered before I arrived. The most difficult part of the trip was taking tired adults and a baby to the grocery store on our way in. My advise, take enough stuff for breakfast and go get what you need the next day. I give Charlottes Pearl a 10 out of 10. I would recommend the house to people of all ages and abilities.
"Great time. Highly recommend if you are looking for a great relaxing vacation way off the beaten path. The island is absolutely beautiful. "
